Untold Canada: A Novel Series from Ashwood Publishing
Canada’s history is full of stories that never made it into the textbooks, or made it in as a single line. Untold Canada is a new series of standalone historical novels from Ashwood Publishing, each built around a real event, real people and real places, and told partly through the eyes of those the official record tends to leave out.
Every book starts with research. Dates, ships, tools, clothing, food, language, and the fates of the real people involved are checked against sources before the story is written. Each novel closes with an Afterword that separates what happened from what was invented. Where the Canadian side of a story is strong, we make the most of it. Where the evidence runs out, we say so.
These novels are made with the help of AI, and we are open about it. Bo Kauffmann chooses each subject, sets the angle, directs the research and makes the story decisions, while AI tools help draft, check and revise the text. Each book’s Foreword explains how that particular novel was made.
New titles are released first as a thank-you to paid subscribers of The Sanity Project, then made available through major ebook stores. Each novel in the series is listed below as it is published.
Before the Ice Takes Us (Untold Canada)
Arctic, 1578. A young English sailor is lost in the fog on Martin Frobisher’s hunt for gold, and an Inuk hunter has every reason to leave him there. Two men from opposite worlds risk everything on a fragile trust, in the voyage remembered for the first English Thanksgiving service in North America, widely regarded as the first Canadian Thanksgiving.
